Requirements For Tier 1 Skilled Visa
Tier 1 Skilled Visa is designed to allow highly skilled people to come to the United Kingdom to look for work or self-employment opportunities, without any restrictions. Professionals can take advantage of this scheme as unlike UK work permits or business people schemes, you do not need a job offer or detailed business plan to be eligible to apply. Successful Tier 1 Skilled Visa candidate are granted permission to live and work in the UK along with their dependents for an initial period of 3 years after which they apply for a further 2 year extension.
On completing 5 years, Tier 1 migrants are eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK thus, making them Permanent Residents of the UK. To be eligible for this scheme, applicants need to demonstrate the score 75 points in addition to meeting other specific English Language and Maintenance requirements.
Points awarded are based on the applicants:
Qualifications
Earnings over the previous 12 months
Age
Work experience or qualification
To apply under points based system and be accepted into the highly skilled worker category, you must pass a points-based assessment.
Points distribution is as follows:
Age Assessment – Max 20 points:
You will gain these points if you are still under 31 years of age the day the application under the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme is received:
Under 28 years of age: 20 points
Between 28 & 29 Years of age: 10 points
Between 30 & 31 Years of age : 05 points
Above 31 years - No Bonus Points ( It does not mean that you are not eligible)
Educational qualifications - 50 points (maximum), Except for MBA Provision (75 points):
You will receive points for one of the following:
Bachelors degree - 30 points
Masters degree or a Diploma, Vocational Course, Industrial Training course of minimum one year - 35 points )
Doctoral / Ph.D degree - 50 points (maximum)
MBA recipients from one of 50 eligible schools will automatically receive 75 points.
Other Points:
10 points for English language.
10 points for available maintenance (funds).
If you do not score a minimum of 75 points for your attributes and 10 points for English language and 10 points for available maintenance (funds), your application will be refused.

How the points differ for first-time applications and extension applications:
The requirements that you must meet in order to be awarded points differ depending on whether you are:
Applying to enter the highly skilled worker category for the first time (initial applications) ; or
Applying to extend your existing permission to stay in this category (extension applications), or
Applying to extend existing permission to stay given to you under the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP).
