New Rules for Tier 1 skilled worker from April 6 2010

New Tier 1 General Scheme Announced by UKBA
Home Office, UK Border Agency announced the changes to Tier 1 General for Highly Skilled worker, which will come into effect from 06th April 2010.
Major changes are announced to points based system. As expected the points for Age for Tier 1 General will now be available till Age 39 and minimum requirements for Education are also brought down to Bachelor's degree. However, the changes to Earnings criteria mean that you will not be able to score any points if your earnings are less than £25,000 for previous 12 months.
Points for Age till 39 will be awarded under Tier 1 General
You will now be able to score 20 points if you are under 30 years of age, 10 points for age 30 to 34 and 05 points for age 34 to 39 (i.e age under 40) as compared to current provisions which allow points for Age only till you are under 32 years of age.
Age under 30 : 20 Points
Age 30 to 34 : 10 points
Age 35 to 39 : 05 Points
Age 40 + : 00 Points
Bachelor's Degree will be minimum qualification to score points under Education.
Under the new Tier 1 General scheme that comes into force on 6 April 2010, you will be able to score 30 points for your education equivalent to Bachelor's Degree from a UK University. Points are also available for professional qualifications such as ACCA etc.
Bachelor's Degree : 30 Points
Master's Degree : 35 points
Doctorate Ph.D. : 45 Points
Even those without a Bachelor's Degree will be able to qualify if they have earnings of over £150,000.
Earnings Criteria Changed Drastically - No Points till you earn £25,000
The slabs for the Earnings Criteria are changed drastically and you will not be able to score any points till you earn at least £25,000 for which you will be able to score only 5 points. If you earn more than £75,000 you will be able to score 45 points as compared to £40,000 under current scheme. Details are as under:
Under £25,000 : 00 Points
£25,000 - £29,999 : 05 points
£30,000 - £34,999 : 15 Points
£35,000 - £39,999 : 20 Points
£40,000 - £49,999 : 25 Points
£50,000 - £54,999 : 30 Points
£55,000 - £64,999 : 35 Points
£65,000 - £74,999 : 40 Points
£75,000 - £149,999 : 45 Points
£150,000 or above : 75 Points
Our advice to you would be to submit your Tier 1 General application before 05 April 2010 if you qualify under the current scheme.
Home Office has further announced that the uplift factors for earnings outside the UK are being reviewed and the changes to uplift factors will be announced later, since the review cannot be completed before 06 April 2010. |
